December Woodlands Sampler

I finally finished December in my Woodlands Sampler a few weeks ago. The home looks quite cozy in all that snow. Though now I'm wondering if I missed a trunk on one of those trees...

Woodlands Sampler Progress

I've gotten a little on the last square finished, but I think I'm going to rip out that banner and do it in another color. I knew I wouldn't like it when I started, and now that I see it in these pictures, I like it even less. It's just too bright to sit next to everything else.

As I was taking these pictures. it dawned on me that I have a bit of the woodlands in my own backyard.

Pine Tree 1

Here is one pine tree in our backyard,

Pine Tree 2

and here is the other. Kind of amazing, isn't it? I've never lived in a place with pine trees before (at least since I was very, very young), so it's pretty neat to have these sitting so close to us. They really are quite beautiful.

You may remember my friend Wren who was diagnosed with cancer. I made her and her baby girl each a quilt a while back. A bit after that I used leftovers from those quilts and a layer cake of Bliss that I had on hand to start a Starry Eyed quilt with the original intention of it to be a Christmas quilt. And it sat, cut out, for quite a while. I finally got back to it last fall.

Starry-eyed Quilt Top

I'm sad to say that Wren didn't make it.

So now this quilt is for her too, for us to remember her by. Because I miss her very much. I'm going to figure out something very simple for quilting, and hopefully by next Christmas we will be snuggling with it.

Feathers G-J

Still plugging away on my feathers quilt. Here are blocks G, H, I, and J. Those last two sets took such a long time, but they look pretty cool. I'm really loving how bright the prints are against the grey background. The feathers are really going to shine when it's all put together. I've gotten a little further than you see here... hopefully soon I'll have all the blocks finished!

Feather Blocks A-F

I'm finally making some progress on my feathers quilt! I have almost everything cut out and prepped, except I was a bit zealous in my cutting the background solid and thus ran out of fabric too early. Whoops! I definitely need to order some more, but it hasn't stopped me from getting started. These are blocks A-F. I tend to forget how much I like paper piecing until I do it again... and I really do enjoy it! I love how crisp and clean everything looks. I'm pretty excited about how this is looking so far! How is everyone else's feather quilt coming along?

January Square-In-Square Block

This month, our do. Good Stitches group is stitching up some gigantic square-in-square blocks. This came out to 21" unfinished. I really love the colors this month; I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Potholders

I whipped up a couple of potholders for my mother-in-law right before Christmas.

Potholders

I used some Pat Bravo prints that I had on hand to make them fun and bright. I used some simple quilting on them to let the prints really shine. I think I need to make some for myself!

Feather Quilt-Along Prints

This yummy stack of fabrics is going to turn into a Feathers quilt, hopefully over the next few months, with a background of Kona Slate. There's a quilt-along if anyone is interested in joining!

It's that time again! 2013 has come to a close, and I always like to sit down and think about what I'd like to quilt and sew in the next year. It's been a year of changes for me - a new job and a move to a new city. It's been hard to find the time to sew, so my goals this year are going to be fewer, but that doesn't mean I will be any less excited about them!

Looking back, apparently I never made goals for the 2013 year (whoops!). Going back to my 2012 goals, some of them I accomplished, and many of them I did not. Working from that list as a base, here are my sewing goals for the 2014 year.

Okay, this clearly is not a small list. I guess I'll just see how it goes! What are your plans for the upcoming year!

Sewing 2013It's been a colorful year, hasn't it? I definitely didn't get as much sewing and quilting in as I would have liked, but I most certainly enjoyed what I was able to make. Happy New Year everyone!

December Do Good Stitches - Weathervane

Boy is it hard getting any sewing done this time of year! With all of the different events, shopping, and card-writing, I haven't had any time to sew in a while. I got these pretty bee blocks done last week for December for my do. Good Stitches circle, though. These Weathervane blocks were very easy to put together, and I love the colors our quilter Rachel picked out. I'm glad she loves scrappy blocks - I get to use more out of by scrap bins when that happens!
